Woodlawn Plantation

Woodlawn Plantation - Intimately tucked away off the beaten path in Alexandria, the Woodlawn Plantation is a beautiful venue with  deep roots in U.S. history. Originally part of George Washington’s Mount Vernon in 1799, the main mansion was designed by William Thornton (architect of the US Capitol). Offering pristine gardens and ample outdoor space, Woodlawn Plantation can accommodate up to 300 guests for your wedding or special event. While its outdoor space is fantastic, we regretfully didn’t have a chance to see what the inside of the mansion had to offer. We are sure it is filled with historic splendor, however rumor has it that indoor space is limited...something to keep in mind incase of inclimate weather.

Fun Fact: George Washington passed Woodlawn Plantation on this his nephew Lawrence Lewis and his bride Eleanor Custis, who is credited with initiating the tradition of lace veils and white dresses on a bride’s wedding day.
